This year, the Bernard Lewis Fellowship of the Combustion Institute will be awarded to a scientist from TU Darmstadt. Dr. Tao Li is being honored for his contributions as a scientist and postdoc to the development of laser-based measurement techniques for the research into climate-friendly fuels.

Dr. Tao Li, group leader at the research institute Reactive Flows and Diagnostics (RSM) of the Technical University of Darmstadt, has been awarded the prestigious Bernard Lewis Fellowship of the Combustion Institute. This award recognizes his outstanding contributions to combustion research, particularly in the further development of laser-based diagnostic methods and the investigation of sustainable energy sources.

The Bernard Lewis Fellowship is awarded every two years during the International Symposium on Combustion to young scientists who are within three years of completing their doctorate. Tao Li received the award at this year's International Symposium on Combustion in Milan.

After completing his doctorate at TU Darmstadt in 2021, in which he investigated the combustion of solid fuels using innovative laser diagnostics, Dr. Li is currently working on topics such as hydrogen and ammonia combustion, plasma-assisted combustion and the generation of clean energy from solid fuels. Li's work has been published in more than 30 scientific papers in international journals. He complemented his scientific career with research stays at Sandia National Laboratories, the University of Cambridge and Princeton University.
